So true... Everyone's goal in life these days is to achieve fame, even if it's ephemeral. I think it's a vicious cycle too. When we see these people receive praise and recognition on television (a la American idol) we think to ourselves, "Hey, I can do that, that's what I want", and it's this mentality that is infecting us all. It's the age of the micro-celebrity!
I think it's cool that media like youtube gives 'everyday' people the opportunity to be known, and it's interesting how it also changes our perception of fame....you can be famous for a silly homemade video about milk and cereal
